1. Stop the water

2. Cut the power to that area

3. Photograph everything, then move what you can

   Wide shots of each affected room, then close-ups of the source. After that, lift what is portable off wet floors, especially anything wooden that will stain carpet.

4. Call it in

   The sooner extraction starts, the more of your flooring and drywall survives. Two days is roughly the line between drying material and replacing it.

4. Clean and treat

   Affected surfaces are washed and treated with antimicrobial where the water category calls for it. Contents that can be salvaged get cleaned rather than written off.

5. Dry and monitor

6. Repair and finish
